Being alone with my camera after dark in usually empty places becomes a meditative experience. The exposures are usually quite long- sometimes up to a half hour- which gives me time to truly experience my subject. Just to sit and watch, and really see what I am photographing. Photography is often considered a medium of instants; however by using long exposures one is able to record many seconds or even several minutes in a single frame- blurring the lines between present and past.
